They have tarpon fishing second to none, and marlin fishing second only maybe to Australia.

- Manzanillo - A very fast beach break located 30 km from Puerto Viejo.
Best place to stay - Villa Paradiso.
- Puerto Viejo - Thick and voluminous wave coming from deep water onto
a shallow reef, also called "Salsa" for its juicy power. This place gets
very big and tubular. Best place to stay - Villa paradiso.
- Black Beach Cahuita - An excellent beach break, not well known and
therefore not heavily visited. Year 'round waves.
- Westfalia - A stretch of beach breaks extending south from Limon to
Punta Cahuita, offering lefts and rights that tend to close out where
the swell gets to large.
- Playa Bonita - A point/reef known for its very thick, powerful and
dangerous left.
- Poout where
the swell gets to large.
- Playa Bonita - A point/reef known for its very thick, powerful and
dangerous left.
- Portete - Small bay south of Playa Bonita with a right working off
the southerly point.
- Isla Uvita - Island off the coast of Limon with a good but dangerous
left.
- North Caribbean Coast - Good beach break accessible via the
Tortuguero channels or by private plane.
North Pacific Coast
- Potrero Grande - A right point break with very fast and hollow waves.
- Playa Naranjo - (Witch's Rock) = One of the best breaks in the
country, with very strong off-shore winds from December to March.
- Playa Grande = Beach break.
- Playa Tamarindo - 3 main points: Pico Pequeno, rocky point in front
of the Hotel Tamarindo - El Estero, an excellent river mouth break, and;
Henry's Point, another rock point break.
- Langosta - A right and left point break that curls off the mouth of
a small river.
- Avellanas - Good beach break.
- Playa Negra - A right point break with very fast waves.
- Nosara - Beach break, with lefts and rights.
- Playa Coyote, Manzanillo, Mar Pais - Beach breaks with very
consistent lefts and rights and several points.
Central Pacific Coast

- Boca Barranca - A river mouth with a very long left
- Puerto Caldera - Very good left called "Jetty Break".
- Playa Tivies and Valor - Variety of waves from beach breaks.
- Playa Escondida - Point break that peaks up forming a good left and
surfable right.
- Playa Jaco - Can be good beach break when the surf is not too big.
Tends to close out when it gets over 5 ft.
- Playa Loca - A rocky point with rights a and lefts that break over
submerged rocks.
- Playa Hermosa - Very strong beach break. Peaks working on any given
day, but the preferred sand bar is located in front of a large tree known
as the Almendro. The wave conditions are generally best when the tide
is rising.
- Esterillos Este, Esterillos Oeste, Bejuco - Beach breaks, good wave
forms.
- Boca Damas - Many Point Breaks.
South Pacific Coast
- Quepos - Small left point.
- Playita Manuel Antonio - Beach break - lefts and rights with good
shape.
- Playa El Rey - Right and LEft beach breaks peaks.
- Playa Dominical - Good, strong beach break with lefts and rights
- Drake's Bay Area - Long powerful waves when swell is running.
- Pavones - Excellent left point, considered one of the longest in
the world. Good shape and very fast.
- Punta Burica - Very remote reef breaks.

Swimming
You can swim almost anywhere on either coast; however, we would recommend
NOT swimming near...
- Puntarenas - (port)
- Limon - (port)
- Golfito - (port)
- The Mouths of ANY River - (Crocs)
- In any river - (Crocs)... they are NOT everywhere... but unless you know for certain...
ALWAYS WEAR WATER SHOES - Coral, Rocks, Glass, and lightly buried Sting Rays can be hell on your
feet.
Most of the time those fins are dolphins... but not always. Dolphins jump. Sharks don't. Don't Guess!
